How are we related to the Arbuthnott family?

 

We are actually related to the Arbuthnott family in at least two lines.

 

 

Isabel Arbuthnott (1520 - 1558)

 

Isabel Arbuthnott is daughter of James Arbuthnot, the 13th of Arbuthnott and Jean Stewart.  James Arbuthnot (13th)  is buried at The Kirk of Saint Ternan on the Arbuthnott Estate.  You can see a photo here and read more here.

 

She married Sir Robert Maule (1497 - 2 May 1560).  Their descendents:

Eleanor (Eleain) Maule (died bef. 11 Mar. 1665) -- Sir Alexander Morrison

Catherine Morrison (1615 - aft 1695) -- George Hume/Home (1615 - 3 Sep 1650, killed at the Battle of Dunbar)

     George Hume/Home was Catherine Morrison's 20th cousin.  See below.

Sir William de Hume the First was a descendent of:

Uhtred, 5th Lord of Bamburgh  -- his third wife, Aelfgufu, daughter of the English King, Ethelred II.

     Hugh de Swinton, the presumed 1st de Arbuthnott, is the 5th Grandson of Uhtred by Uhtred's second wife, Sige.  Isabel Arbuthnott (section above) is Hugh de Swinton's 10th great grand niece, a descendent of Cospatric I's full brother, Aedulf "Rus", Earl of Northumberland.

     Uhtred, like most European Kings, has a genealogy claiming ancestry back to Adam and Eve.
