My records reached a dead end at Sarah Stoddard Holt, and upon recent close examination I think that they still do.  Update:  I requested original records from the Connecticut State Library.  In fact, Sarah Stoddard Holt is the daughter of Robert Hold and Nancy Hempstead; granddaughter of Benjamin Hempstead and Elizabeth Copp.

Based on citings from Genealogy of the Descendants of William Chesebrough, Founder of Stonington, Ct. by Anna Chesebrough (Wildley Publication: New York: Press of T.A. Wright, 1903) I had taken her parents to be Robert Holt and Nancy Hempstead, daughter of Benjamin Hempstead and Elizabeth Copp.  There are several problems with this:

1. The genealogy given for Elizabeth Copp under this citation appears suspect.

2. The name "Stoddard" appears out of nowhere.

3. Sarah would have been born some 22 years after her youngest sibling and when her mother was nearly 40 years old.

It is clear that Sarah Stoddard Holt definitely married Charles Miner Gorham and moved to Yuba California and became my great-great-great grandmother.  Therefore, if anyone has any definitive information about her, please send it to me using the comments link at the top of this page.
