From Hume to Adam and Eve

The founding of the Hume/Home family name of course occurred when Sir William married his cousin, the widow Ada , and formed his fortune with her.  About 600 years before William and Ada , Scotland was beginning to take form as a nation.  Dalriada (dahl-ree-ahda) was one Gaelic kingdom that extended across parts of Ireland and Scotland from about 500AD.

The Kings of Dalriada came from an Irish royal line.  According to the legend of this line, going back 75 generations before William, an Irish King married Tamar Tephi, a daughter of Judah .  Through this kind of legend, Occidental kings made their claim to lines from the Kings of Judah and finally to Adam and Eve- essential in asserting the divine right of kings.  The legend is used today by certain persons to make various political and religious claims, some of an unsavory nature.

Coming forward in time to around 950AD, under the rule of Kenneth I (mac Alpin), Dalriada absorbed or subdued the Picts and became the basis of the Scottish nation.  Kenneth became the founder of the Scottish kings.  Through this line and via Princess Bethoc into an early Dunbar line, the genealogy reaches our Sir William 600 years later.
