Was a member of Alpha Lambda fraternity.  Graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1905 with a degree in mining engineering.  Graduated from the Oakland College of Medicine.  Practiced general work and gynecology and later specialized in abdominal surgery.  Was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.^{1, 7}
